What You Can Expect
The theme for this year’s event is Afr’energy. A fascinating word formed from two others that speak to emotions of power and positivity, but what does it mean? Combining our personal power to form a collective strength that gives us the ability to dream and soar is the heart of Afr’energy. Realising that we are connected to everything and harnessing the magic to build on today, is what will shape a better tomorrow. This is the ability we all have within – that Afr’energy.
The spirit and vibrance of the South African culture will be showcased by 48 community groups and several individual performers. Alongside the creative floats and costumes, spectators can look forward to seeing performances from the likes of Masiphumelele drummers and the Western Province Marching Band.
Take note of the following times so that you know how to plan your day:
- Afternoon: Fan Walk gets closed to vehicle traffic. Spectators can enjoy activities prior to the parade.
- 14:30: The two carnival villages, food vendors, and bars all open.
- 18:00: Pre-parade begins.
- 19:00: Main parade begins.
